Alexander Painter | About

Alex is a composer, songwriter, sound designer and multi-instrumental performer based in Brighton, UK. He often uses cello, saxophone, piano and voice; employing experimental techniques, tape manipulation and improvisation to create a unique palette of sounds.

As a solo live performer and collaborator Alex works with artists such as Orlando Weeks, Gazelle TwinWilliam Doyle, Tony Njoku, Mike Lindsay and Anna B. Savage; and has toured the world with a variety of live acts.

​

He has scored a number of films and provides additional production on film and TV projects including documentaries Clotilda: The Return Home (NatGeo/Disney+), A Story Of Bones and One Shot (Sky); often collaborating with composer Bankey Ojo. Alex has also designed a series of experimental cinematic sample packs for Loopmasters and recently performed at Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival as one of their HCMF// Shorts artists for a collaboration with 'sound tattooing' artist Dylan Beattie.

A co-founder of experimental DIY record label Anti-Ghost Moon Ray with Gazelle Twin, Acquaintance and Bernholz, Alex has released music under the name Great Pagans alongside a many other projects such as Speak Galactic and Green Gills.
